Well, this is it, my last “weekend” as a citizen of Bahrain. Thursday night is the night over here as we work to a Thursday/Friday weekend and with me being in work Thursday morning, Friday is the only real day off. I’ve got some really good memories of Thursday nights, from Graham getting “confused” by a broad Scottish fellow of the Asian-persuasion in the chip shop one time, to the roof-top party that saw me and Morgan taking a dip in the pool fully clothed and plenty more in-between! There’s nothing really on the cards tonight, I think we’re all just going to meet and see where we end up, which always makes for an interesting time! I’m sure there’s plenty of time for a few more memories to be created!
I think the first plan of attack for this afternoon when I get in is to start packing everything up with a bit more earnest, as I’m amazed at how much stuff I’ve acquired and I don’t want to be stuck at the last minute with no way of getting it home!
The past few days I’ve hardly been at the apartment at all. Morgan and Louise have recently moved out in to their own place at Amwaj Island near Graham’s new pad, and with Chris having sorted a place out up there too I’ve spent most of my evenings this week up there just chilling out by the water with a couple of beers. It seems strange being on my own in the apartment, it certainly seems a lot bigger now, but somehow it just seems soul-less without all the bodies coming and going. In some ways it’s nice to have the place to myself for the last few days, although it’s hard not to reflect on all the bad times I’ve experienced between those four walls either. That first time I walked back in after dropping my ex off at the airport will always stick with me I think, Morgan was at work and the place just seemed so quiet, it felt like it hit my like a ton of bricks at that precise moment that the last 18 month chapter was over and I’m not too proud to admit it. For all the bad times though there have been plenty of amazing nights spent in that place too, like the infamous “Harry Potter” incident for one.
I’ll never forget Morgan, Louise and I stood with the windows open throwing fruit at the builders across the road either and even the washing machine episode brings a smile to my face now!
I suppose for the next few days I’ll just make the most of having my own space and take in the view; there’s certainly not going to be a seaside view in Mansfield!
In other news I’ve had a few run-ins with the aforementioned ex this week, but it doesn’t really deserve the time or effort to go in to it. All I’ll say it’s amazing sometimes how ruthless some people can be when it comes to twisting the knife, but I know I’ll have the last laugh in the end, because sooner or later she’ll get hurt the same way she hurts others. When it does happen, I’ll be the one with the smug grin disappearing in to the distance.
